Plymouth Park, (Rock Island), Washington

Location: Located on State Route 14 between mile marker 179 and 180. Follow Plymouth Rd. toward river turning right on Christy Rd. and immediately to the park.
Windsurfing Difficulty: Advanced intermediate to advanced

Facilities: Seasonal Day use and Camping. $3 per day user fee, $14 per day camping fee, extra $2 for sewer hookup.
Campground: 32 Tent/RV pull-through campsites, 16 of which have full hook-ups. Paved campsites, tent pads, grass, shade, fire pits/grills, hot showers, and a trailer dump station.
Windsurfing details: Many sailors claim Plymouth reminds them of the Corridor with sections of spectacular swells, steep faces, and mondo chop. Several sailing choices exist at Plymouth. Take an immediate left into Plymouth Park and rig on grass and launch from the bank. Plymouth is one of the few locations not significantly dependent on the direction of the wind. Typically, expect steady wind with excellent port as well as starboard ramps. Best swells are in the barge channel, close to the Washington side of the river, especially near channel markers which are only accessible on downwinders.
Barge Warning: Upstream barges appear 'out-of-nowhere' due to the close proximity of the upstream locks and travel quickly with the fast current immediately below McNary Dam.

Day-Use area has covered shelters, tables, fire pits/grills, a swimming area, grass, shade, drinking water, cold showers and restroom facilities. Or, continue west down Christy Rd., about 3.55 miles to just before the railroad tracks, to the Rock Island launch, a favorite for Tri-City sailors. Follow the dirt road about 100 yards west and park in the small, protected area along the river. The launch is rocky. Beware of Rock Island just upwind of launch area. Avoid this shallow area. This area hosts sweet swells; but during high flow the chop can be somewhat intimidating.
