Scenic Area Appropriations Request for 2007
March 2006-CGWA has written many WA & OR legislators and others requesting Scenic Area funds for the Hood River Waterfront Park. Here is the request in its entirety.

The appropriation requests have been sent in for Scenic Area Recreation Construction Funds.
To: Senators Patty Murray and Maria Cantwell and Congressman Doc Hastings for $2,005,000 for the Hatchery (legal name is Spring Creek Hatchery State Park). The Hatchery project when completed should alleviate the safety & parking issues, create better rigging areas, etc.
To: Senators Gordon Smith and Ron Wyden and Congressman Greg Walden for $80,000 for West Mayer State Park (west of Rowena)...also letting them know that the whole project will be $1,030,000. This is for a campground, which when completed will offer you Rowena-ites a nearby place to stay with a fairly close walking distance for your families.
If these legislators are yours, give them a push to appropriate the requested funds. $10 million was authorized for recreation way back in 1986. Remind them that these improvements will help our poor Gorge economies because you'll spend more money visiting in the Gorge which in turn will provide more jobs.

Columbia Gorge Recreation Coalition partners and friends met with Oregon State Senator Ted Ferrioli to review status of Coalition project - Hatchery, Viento, West Mayer and Mosier Waterfront - and to request his help in getting them funded. CGWA Coalition representatives met with Gorge Commissioners at the Hatchery to gain stronger support for that project. CGWA, as a member of the Coalition, has again requested Scenic Area Recreation construction funding and the support of Oregon and Washington federal legislators.
