Races and Competitions

This well-known local race series includes 9 regattas on various Saturdays from May to September. Formula class racing is the main focus. However, if winds exceed maximum, the fleet runs fast-paced slalom races. Most events will be held at the Hood River Event Site. Spectators can look forward to seeing some of the best local racers on the beach and on the course.

Racers pay a $40 registration fee for each event which offsets the cost of running the event (including a race boat), lunch and refreshments throughout the day. At seasons end, Gorge Cup racers join CGWA members for the Annual Awards Dinner to hear who won the coveted 'Cups' in each fleet.

This three-day event is always exciting as racers in both the Formula and Formula Experience class hit the course in Hood River. Previous attendees to both event have included nationally and internationally known sailors. Participants have also included some of the top junior sailors in the US, most of which are on the US Junior Windsurfing Team.

The King of the Hook: Attending this event will probably be the most fun you have all summer! This event takes place in the Hook in Hood River, which is a natural amphitheater for watching the tricks and fun. The competition occurs on long boards with attendees ranging from something like 10 to 60+ years old. This is not to say the competition is a joke; it is very serious. But everyone, crowd and competitors alike, smile through it all. There are prizes for the best sailing and costumes... Anything goes here!

2007 Canadian Windsurfing Championships, Squamish, BC, Canada: This event is popular with Canadians and American alike. The backdrop is a spectacularly beautiful area. Bring you camera, friends and family. Accommodations ranging from campsite to hotels are available in close proximity to the race site.
