Better sailing conditions exist at West Avery. Needs further preliminary study.
This site is now open- May 24, 2005- The road has been repaired and West Avery is open for sailing.
Road blocked- March 24, 2004- The access road has been blocked to West Avery by the US Army Corps of Engineers due to the road’s deterioration, making it unsafe. We have written to the Corps in Portland urging them to make repairs as soon as possible. Money is the issue. Approximately 70% of The Dalles Pool budget for recreation has been reduced, and no improvements are on tap this year for West Avery.
