Plans for new State Park and Access- September 26, 2006- The US Army Corps of Engineers will soon begin work at Wyeth providing access. Preliminary plans include an in-lieu fishing site on the west end and a state park on the east end.

Information and History- From Oregon DEQ web site, http://www.deq.state.or.us/er/UPRRwyeth.htm

The Wyeth site covers about 20 acres in the Columbia River Gorge. The site is located on the south shore of the Columbia River, about 10 miles west of the town of Hood River. Union Pacific Railroad (UPRR) and/or its predecessor, Oregon Railroad & Navigational Company used the site for railroad tie-treating operations from the 1880s to 1920s. UPRR is negotiating sale of the property to the State of Oregon, for use by Oregon Parks and Recreation Department (OPRD). OPRD plans to develop the central portion of the property as a park for day use and river access. OPRD also plans to transfer the western portion of the site to Native American tribal interests to provide river access for fishing. Soil and concrete structures contaminated with wood-treating chemicals were removed from the site in 2004.
